Ever noticed
the irony-free way anarchists always seem to conform when it comes to dress
code. The dyed hair, grungy T-shirt, oversized boots with chain or studded
accessories. Well, Andrew O'Neill doesn't deviate from that norm. In comedy, of course, anarchic tends to be not so much an ideological standpoint, but simply a synonym for unconventional, often going hand-in-hand with that dread word, 'zany'. For the best part of his set, he has more than a touch of Harry Hill about him, both stupid yet convincing as he acts out Mortal Kombat conflicts between, say, Antiques Roadshow and Bargain Hunt, or one of many other such surreal concepts. He's got an engaging stage manner and the proven ability to write a gag and a bright future ahead. 2004: Edinburgh show Apparently with James Sherwood |
